Cold Night Bright Morning (Open)

Dispite the cold night a pretty claico she-cat rose out of her moss bedding to feel the heat of the rising sun. During the night before she had felt the strange chill of the summer nights. But now the bright moring brought on a new plan for the day. In which Paintedsoul was planning in the strange head of hers. At first she planned to take a nice stroll around the Grassland and end do alittle bit of sunhigh hunting. The idea was shot down when her gaze rested on the appertince den. Sure some appertince needed some help with training? Maybe one could us a round of battle training. Still she hadn't heard from the appertince in a while. Maybe they already had been training. To her MistClan seemd diffrent, they were no longer a really close clan. Of course her thought of a clan were diffrent thanks to the Great Journey.

Paintedsoul woke her body up by taking a nice stretch feeling the tense then losen of her muscles. Even in the summer her leg felt strange, it was like they longed for firmer ground. Walking in the wet paraies for endless hours hunting took their own toal on her limps. They felt like mud some days and perfect others. Maybe it was just her racing mind her contest bashing on her body. She was pretty to everyon but to herself she was a mixmatched mess of body parts. Long Limps, strange ears even funning looking whiskers. Stop that She heard the little voice in her head scream. She refered to the voice as her little secound brain. It told her right from wrong and sometime like now telling her to stop fussing about her body.

Go Hunting Her little voice said, this time she took the advice and left the warrior's den. It didn't take long for her to feel the rush of the morning sun. I'm going to enjoy this morining She said aloud unsure if anyone had heard her. The calico she-cat found herself a nice sunny area and sprawled out tail lashing playfully.

(Let's see if I can still roleplay like I used to. -cracks knuckles-)


For the millionth time since the wildfire, Devilstar wondered if he had done the right thing moving the former Shoreclan to the wet prairies and rechristening them Mistclan. The wet prairies had their advantages, the mucky ground prevented cats inexperienced about the wet prairies from staging a surprise attack against them, and if one knew where to look, the prey was plentiful. Though just the other day he had overheard whisperings of how they would have been better off in the burnt Shoreclan ground.

The large handsome tom wandered his way from the warmth of his den, taking care to step delicately to prevent his long purple-black fur from being clotted with the mud. The mist that they had gained their name from was swirling and twirling around his paws in a light gray fog, just see-through enough to allow him to make sure that he was still on at least semi-stable ground.

Sharp, dark blue eyes spotted the unusual pelt of one of his Warriors, Paintedsoul, sprawled out on a nice grassy area that was quickly being rid of its sparse mist due to the sun baring down on them. A pretty she-cat despite her flaws. He was still stinging from the bluntness of her response when she had walked right up to him and informed him haughtily that she was going to be a Mistclan cat and nothing he could say would stop him. It had been amusing at the time, as she had been a Shoreclan cat before she was a Mistclan cat ”Paintedsoul?” His low baritone voice rumbled from deep within his chest as a greeting.

How are you this morning? He asked politely, towering over the lying-down she-cat. He sat down regally, wrapping his plush tail around his long, lean legs. The bright sunlight bearing down on them caused the silver surrounding his dark blue eyes to shimmer even more than normal.

Hearing the voice of her leader was like hearing Rosepetal voice. It brought simple dream and memories. Letting the pure sound of his deep tom voice ring in her ears. It took her moments to register that he said her name. Quickly she perked her head toward his direction and nodded a soild greeting. Paintedsoul dragging in the respect she had for her leader. Rose to a pleasent sitting poistion. Wrapping her wite tipped tail over her paw then back around, this consent motion of like a game for her. Again he spoke this time it sounded friendly and it reminded her of the day she told him she was going to be apart of MistClan. Her eye drifted from his handsome frame to the mist in which she called some. Watching the mist drift away, hiding from the invading sun. Well Devilstar, I was planning on hunting but then I thought Wolfpaw could us some training. Dose he have a mentor? She asked her eye still focused on the mist. Quickly she moved her eye to glance at him before returning to her mist gazing.

Your mother was a EmberClan queen. Your father a loner. Rosepetal mowed to a sleepy appertince. Tell me more about her.. A sleepy appertince mowed resting her head on her foster mother's tail. Well Paintedpaw she loved you very much She smiled as her foster daughter drifted into a nice cozy sleep. Just as I love you Came the She-cat words before drifting into her own pleasent sleep.

Paintedsoul brought herself back to the present with a little shake of her strange ears. Sorry, She mowed flashing him a weak smile tainted with tear drawn eyes.I miss you so much. She was the only connect to my mother Paintedsoul wanted to say aloud but knew the tom had better things to worry about the her sad story.

It took Paintedsoul several moments to respond to him, and Devilstar appreciated the brief silence. Moments of quiet were rare while he made efforts to stabilize Mistclan. She rose to a sitting position next to him, and a flicker of movement out of the corner of his eye informed him that she had wrapped her tail around her speckled legs. A black ear twitched in her direction when she broke the comfortable silence that had fallen over them. Predictably, the first words out of her mouth were about the new apprentice, Wolfpaw, and Devilstar lifted a black lip to reveal a white tooth in a slight smile.

“No. Wolfpaw does not have an Apprentice yet. I am still in the process of choosing her mentor.” He answered in his low baritone voice, dark cobalt eyes sliding to examine the she-cat next to him. “Are you interested in becoming her mentor?” He asked lightly, his blue-silver eyes gleaming with a faint amount of amusement and teasing.

He cocked his head as if listening to something. “Hunting does sound like a rather nice idea at this moment,” he agreed vaguely, noticing out of the corner of his eye how Paintedsoul seem to daydream in her own head, judging by her vacant stare. He chose to remain quiet, welcoming the silence that befell over them once more. Instead, he listened to the faint sounds of Mistclan surrounding the two cats.

Then, with a flicker of her ears, Paintedsoul snapped out of her reminiscing and mewed an apology, looking noticeably less put together than she had only a few seconds ago. She looked like she was about to start crying, and Devilstar immediately gathered that she had not been daydreaming but rather thinking about her adopted mother. Instincts gathered after being the only tom in a litter of she-cats kicked in, and he rubbed his shoulder against her’s gently in a hopefully comforting manner. “It is quite alright,” he meowed back, voice quiet.

“If…”He hesitated, unused to acting compassionate. He was alright nice sure, but there was a difference between being nice and allowing a she-cat to cry on his shoulder. Which would hopefully be metaphorical. “If you need someone to talk to, I’m here.” He muttered finally under his breath, looking awkward as his cobalt eyes averted to the side. It was times like these that Devilstar wondered why his mother had always taught him to be so polite to the other gender. Starclan knew that he still wasn’t very good at it.

Paintedsoul was caught off guard when he asked if she would like to be Wolfpaw's mentor. At first she felt like jumping out of pure joy but she remained calm, somthing hard for her. Dragging the silence, he reacted on her behalf when her eyes clouded with tears. First instinct was balw like a kit but she stary true to herself and kept her face try. Instead she looked him square in the face and smiled. I would love to train Wolfpaw She held back the tears her voice dry and morbid.

I'm sorry Devilstar, here I'm a rather happy cat then all of the sudden I'm crying like a kit She mowed though her silent tears trying to laugh it off. Even if she did miss her foster mother it was use crying about it. She was old greencough was her match. Rosepetal lived a long life and a happy one at that . I'm sorry Paintedsoul said again wiping away the tears with her tail. I should be out hunting She mowed trying to mantain a hold on her tears. I need to help the Clan Her voice was colder then before, in once sence it was her way of going to cry her brains out. Still deep down Paintedsoul enjoyed having Devilstar around he just seemed to stop the pain of her Rosepetal's death.

Quickly before anymore tears feel she rose to her feet and took of toward the exit. How did you deal? She asked stopping mid-step she didn't want to say the question agian, she only hoped her heard her the first time.

Devilstar blinked as she started to tear up again, and had to refrain the urge to sigh immaturely. Females. He nodded, somewhat jerkily, when she accepted being the mentor, attempting to regain his regality and not look like an immature little kit. She handled her emotions like a true Mistclan warrior, and he decided to pretend that he did not see her tears, in an effort to allow her to keep her composure.

“It is alright. Emotions can bring down even the hardiest Warrior sometimes,” he mewed back sagely, voice composed but with the just right amount of kindness in it without seeming condescending. “It is not healthy to smother them, for they will gang up on you when you least expect it and make it you bow to them.” His deep voice was tinged with the faintest amount of amusement as he attempted to lighten the somber atmosphere surrounding them desperately.

Then Paintedsoul got up from her sitting position next to him and started to walk off before pausing after only a few steps. She didn’t turn to face him, but he heard the question she asked him loud and clear, and it gave him pause. He considered how to respond appropriately, though his normally quick-witted mind failed him and no answer came to mind. Finally, he replied to the best of his ability, baritone voice low and painfully honest, as he finally allowed his loneliness to shine through, at least in his words. He missed his mother and father, and his missing sisters, even if he would deny it to anyone else.

“What makes you think I’ve dealt with it?”

As she waited for his reply it felt like a million years had gone by and she was free of time's grip. She didn't look back at him instead she looked forward picturing her real mother and father. What could have been, she would have been FlareClan raised. It would have been diffrent she would be sourrounded in mist all the time. She be melting in the heat, so she guessed. Then her pretty face flashed and gave way to foster mother possible life. Her mate was lost in the fire, he saved her and ended his life. Paintedsoul felt like throwing up, thinking of all the possiblitys that were changed by the fire. But none of them could change who she was, either way she would have been Rosepetal's daughter. She would be an only kit, she would train under her paw and learn by Rosepetal's help no one elses. Paintedsoul was still claim to be a MistClan cat forever and always, even in hard time she found a way to find happiness. One in which was in Devilstar, during his hard life he learned to care for everyone in diffrent ways. But no one was prepared for what his reply was.

What make you think I've dealt with it?

His voice was strange and distance, something she didn't expect from him. In a heartbeat she turned quickly on her heels and came to face him. I didn't know.... Her voice was now softer and trying to be comforting. I thought since you are so calm and collected you were over it She mowed feeling stupid and inmature. I'm really sorry Devilstar, forgive me Her voice was small and fading. I didn't mean to open old wounds This time she placed her shoulder against his. In the same fashion he did for her, there they sat leaning on one another.

His dark blue eyes became half lidded as he stared down at her, as she spun gracefully on her heel and rushed to sit down next to him as soon as his response registered, rubbing her shoulder against his in a comforting manner which he himself had performed only minutes ago.

She almost immediately apologized for being so brash, and he gave her a slow smile, a small curling of the lips really. “I’m a Leader, Paintedsoul. If I allowed everyone to see how I felt, then it could be used against me. I have to come off as calm and collected, even if all I feel like doing is screaming at Starclan until I lose my voice. I’m relatively certain it was somewhere in the job description,” he pointed in his quiet voice, supporting her slight weight against his larger frame almost subconsciously.

He then shot her another sad smile. “It’s difficult to reopen wounds if they’re still open, Paintedsoul,” he told her cryptically. “And do not worry, you are forgiven. I can’t be mad at you for asking about something that you had no prior knowledge of.”

He sighed, a deep heaving of his chest that reverberated up from his throat and out of his mouth. “Would you like to talk about it? I can pretty much guarantee that I know what you’re going through.” He asked awkwardly after a few more moment’s of the uncomforting silence, which strangely enough, was now driving him crazy. Talk about hypocritical. He refrained the urge to sigh again.

Feeling his frame support more of her weight she eased up alittle. Taking in the silent moment, listiening to him talk about how being a leader ment being strong and calm even if your world was crashing down. Paintedsoul picked him younger and scared running around from home. Sure at the time he was an appertince and it was expecting sorrow time or another. Hearing him say the wound were already opend she picture herself a young she-cat around 23 moons at the time, greving for her mothers' death. Devilstar was an appertince when he lost everytone, sure her own self-pity was less this his.

Hearing his deep sigh and then agian his deep tom voice rang in her strange ears. She looked up never in her life did she notice how tall he looked. How hard his life must have been fighting everyday to stay alive. She had a mother to care for her she had someone to lean on. Devilstar why don't you talk and I listen? We can leave the camp if you want ot Her voice was cherry again well alteast halfway. It was no longer morbid depressing. Finally Paintedsoul found the tom rather he knew it or not she knew it deep down. He had suffered just like her and he was the one. Even if he didn't like her the same way she liked him, she was determind to show him. That life doesn't have to be about pain and suffering. Though darkness and dispiar you can find happiness and joy, was Devilestar willing to look?

(I just think they are the perfect couple you don't have to agree with me but I could be a nice mini-plot)

(-cracks up- Great minds think alike! I've been resisting the urge to put prettiful hints since, like, my second post. xD And I've actually been looking for a mini-plot with this luffly, luffly chara of mine. ;D)


Devilstar felt Paintedsoul lessen her weight against him, and he blinked in surprise when he realized that he missed her warmth radiating from her fur. He must have been lonely than he’d originally thought to have become so fascinated by this she-cat so fast.

He’d always heard of her mood swings, supposedly worthy of that of a pregnant Two-legs, from the gossiping cats but to had never experienced them for himself. Now he could safely say that he knew what all of the talk was about, and that it was true. This she-cat switched moods faster than most cats blinked.

“Devilstar why don't you talk and I listen? We can leave the camp if you want to.”

He blinked in mild surprise at the question. Throat feeling strangely tight, he merely pondered her proposal for a few moments, before finally answering in his smooth, deep voice, “A walk sounds nice.” He was slightly hesitant about revealing such intimate thoughts like his family to a she-cat to whom he was currently having their first conversation that extended beyond mere pleasantries, but perhaps he would feel like it on a walk.

Just then, a sudden warm wind blew and Devilstar’s nostrils were suddenly filled with the scent that rang with nothing but Paintedsoul in it. Almost despite himself, he inhaled deeply once more before the wind died down, and with it, her scent. Then he blinked, throat tight once more and started wondering feverishly what in the world he had just done. He barely even knew it.

Oh dear God, was he turning into his father?! His mother’s stories about his father’s fumbling attempts to court her were legendary.

He certainly hoped not. He preferred to think of himself of a smooth operator, even if his interaction with the other gender who weren’t his family was supremely limited.

And he was even talking in his head. Great.

Paintedsoul nodded as she left the camp. Unsure if he was right behind her or not she kept at a slow pace. Her mind was racing, all her life she feared falling for a tom. Devilstar was diffrent, he was strong and calm even in darkness. She longed to be by his side helping him, even if she wasn't a deputy. She wanted to have a say she wanted to be able to sit with him and help him when he was confused. All her life Rosepetal talked about her mate, he came to her everyday and asked what she wanted to do. They worked togeather and when the fire hit he was the last out. Paintedsoul wanted to find a tom that would risk his life for her like she would do her him in a heartbeat. Devilstar had 9 lives to lose and only had one but in a heartbeat she would protect him.

As she felt the sudden wettness of the wet paraies she stopped, waiting for him to check up. Quickly she turned alooked at him. The claico drew in a large breath and let it then escape. I like you Devilstar. I like you more then a warrior to her leader. I really like yoou She stopped talking and planted her rump on the muddy ground. She wan't expecting him to speak or atelast she expected him to turn around and bolt.

Devilstar trotted along beside Paintedsoul, enjoying the soft wind that kicked up, also successfully blowing the distracting scent of Paintedsoul's woodsy scent away from him, allowing him to maintain some form of dignity and honor.

She paused abruptly when they had only just begun to hit the marsh-like ground of the oh-so-common wet prairies, and surprised, Devilstar had to stop just as abruptly to avoid careening into her. “Um, Paintedsoul?” He asked worriedly. “Is everything alr-”

I like you Devilstar. I like you more then a warrior to her leader. I really like you.

At hearing the deliberate, passionate words from the she-cat, Devilstar did what every other hot-blooded did in times of crisis and backpedaled. Fast.

“Um,” he trailed, whipping his head around quickly, eyes wide as he attempted to think of a way out of this without hurting her feelings. His quick-witted mind failed him once more, though finally, he knew what to say.

“Well, thank you, Paintedsoul. I like you as a more than a Warrior too. I think we can be…friends.”

He hesitated, unused to using the last word and finally gave her a warm smile, hoping to soothe her worries. He wondered why his chest seem to hurt when he said they could be friends.

Paintedsoul waited as replied as she waited her heart started to race. She wasn't sure why but being out here in the mushy ground calmed her. She need to be calm for what he told her.

"Well, thank you, Paintedsoul. I like you as a more than a Warrior too. I think we can be…friends.”

Those word hit her like a twolegged monster. She swallowed the little lump in her chest and nodded. I like that Her voice was higher then normal she worked hard, her dreams of being by his side were shot. She wan't going to be his mate or anything just a friends. So..Devilstar what would you like to tail about She asked tiliting her head to the left just alittle. Patting the ground with her paws, trying to stay happy and go-lucky around him. Paintedsoul was determind not to show him how he hurt her. Devilstar...I think we should take about your paraents. She added as a last idea before wrapping and unwrapping her tail like before in the camp.

Throat feeling tight, he ignored her higher-than normal voice, trying to pretend as if he had no idea what she had meant by it, even when he was fully aware of it. The throbbing in his chest amplified significantly at the open hurt in her voice, and he felt bad. But…he wasn’t ready for that kind of commitment. Maybe even never. He wanted to find someone who connected with him on the same level that his parents did. And that, he knew, was difficult to come by.

“Idealistic romantic,” is what Morningpaw would have doubtlessly called him if she was there. Of course, this would have probably been followed by a whap on the back of the head.

So..Devilstar what would you like to talk about?

So distracted was he by his random thoughts, he almost missed her question, cocking his head to the side distractedly. Quickly though, he snapped out of it and gave her a vaguely alarmed look before calming down. He remained silent, unsure how to answer that question, especially with the thick cloud of awkwardness that had descended upon them like rain during the Newleaf season.

Then, she seemed to answer her own question, saving him the effort. Devilstar...I think we should take about your parents. Now he was very thoroughly alarmed, and shot her a sharp look.

“What about my parents?” He almost demanded before wincing at how harsh he sounded. Immediately, he calmed looking extremely apologetic. “My apologies. My family is a bit of touchy subject for me,” he explained quietly, head bowing in apology.

He cleared his throat. “Where do I start? My mother was the most attentive mother. She watched over me like a hawk, probably due to my tendency to roam and get into mischief, particularly after I gained Cherryblossom as a mentor and we spent half the day training and the half of the day setting traps for my father, whom she was never particularly fond of and seeing if we could steal herbs from the Medicine Cat’s den.

“My father was hopelessly in love with my mother. It was always abundantly clear. When we were still kits, my mother used to tell us stories of his bumbling attempts at courting, as she had so quaintly put it. And after the fire, it all disappeared. I have no idea if my sisters are alive or dead. I can’t find any of my friends.” He continued wistfully, eyes vacant and distant as if seeing a long ago time.

Paintedsoul listened easily taking note of the affection his father seemed to have for his mother. Thinking about her own parents her father left before she was born. Hearing the story from Rosepetal like it was her own story. The young she-cat tried to keep his gaze on her but after hearing the tang of anger in his voice when she asked a question she was afraid to ask anything more about his family. "Your family seemed to be very happy She bit her lip holding back another rush of small tears.

Like a queen she pulled her head out of her misey and leveld it off keeping herself poised and beautiful. "My father left my mother when she told him she was having kits. She died when I was born, Rosepetal lost her mate in the fire. She raised me She didn't squeak out her reply instead she embraced her saddness by thinking of good times and feeling the warmth of her foster mother's love. Twiching her ears first the left then the right her tails folded over her paws. Almost like a robot she opend her mouth ever she slighlty tasting the air. From where she sat a mouse was about 4 tail lengths away, but if she dared brake the connection between her and Devil, only starclan knows if they will ever talk again.

How about anything else? She asked turning her head to the left adjusting her paws before placing them on her tail away from the damp ground.
